Le Fou Workshop!
December 4th, 2pm
We're doing a workshop/reading of the first completed draft of Le Fou on Sunday, December 4th at 2pm at the TAI Group (150 W. 30th street, 14th floor). The show has music by me, lyrics by Rob Shapiro, and book by Bekah Brunstetter (based on her play), and will be directed by Alice Reagan. Our cast includes Ellen Condon, Brianne Cobuzzi, Kimiko Glenn, Kevin Pariseau Felicia Ricci, Rachel Smith and Josh Sauerman.
Le Fou is loosely inspired by Portrait Painter John Singer Sargent's scandalous painting of
Mme Amelie Gartreau, titled Madame X (pictured above.) This painting - because of the
suggestiveness of the fallen strap - ruined Amelie's reputation and eventually sent her into
seclusion for the rest of her life. Sargent, on the other hand - this painting secured his place
amongst the greats.

Tuesday, February 22nd
Gordon and I spent 5 wonderful snowy, artisinal cheese-filled days in Weston, Vermont, working on Pregnancy Pact! The unstoppably talented Rich Silverstein came as our musical director, and we were lucky enough to have Christy Altomare, Ally Bonino, Ellen Condon, Amy Linden and Dana Steingold as our singers. Everyone at Weston was extremely kind and welcoming, and we are especially grateful to Steve Stettler for his insight into the piece. Saturday night we performed our hour-long abridged concert of the show at Burr and Burton Academy in nearby Manchester, and we had a small private presentation in New York shortly after returning. I blogged about our Vermont experience here.

In Their Own Voice at the Laurie Beechman
Monday, August 9th, 9:30pm
Gordon and I were all set to premiere a new song at this fundraiser for the NYMF show Nighttime Traffic by Alex Wyse, but when Gordon was sick and couldn't perform, the wonderful Mara Herman saved the day--stepping in and learning the song in about 45 minutes. This is how Gordon and I craftily by accident avoided the whole theme of the concert, which was writers performing their own work. Other participants included Scott Alan, Joey Contreras, Adam Gwon, John Mercurio, Rob Shapiro, and Jason Michael Snow.
Eric and Julia's Cheap Show at the Parkside Lounge:
Tuesday, July 6th, 9pm
Eric and Julia here.
As most of you know, our finances have taken a huge hit in the last few months. We were both fired from our hedge funds. Our paper and gold investments tanked. And we blew all of the profits from our smash hit Expensive Show on one, really sweet bike.
But we're still entertainers. And entertainers got to entertain, which is why we are pleased to invite you all to Eric and Julia's Cheap Show, coming this Tuesday to New York City's cheapest venue -- the Parkside Lounge!
We're not going to lie -- we've cut corners all over the place. The band has been replaced by a piano. All of the singers have been replaced with cheap, reusable balsa wood. And all of the songs have been replaced with the sound of one hand clapping.
"Ooh, what does that sound like?" you ask.
To find out, come see:

One Man Show at Joe's Pub:
Thurs-Sat June 3-June 5
DanceNOW [NYC] is pleased to present One-Man Show, an hour-long musical created by John Heginbothom with music by Julia Meinwald and lyrics by Gordon Leary, as part of its Dancemopoltian series at Joe’s Pub. Here’s a snapshot: John wakes from a coma to find himself center stage at the legendary East Village cabaret, Joe’s Pub. His dying wish has been granted – He will finally star in his own one-man show. Confronted with just one hour to live, John dances and sings to the point of diminishing returns. Two caregivers and a disembodied frontal lobe-cum-pianist provide the entertainment. Expect Joseph Papp, Ginger Rogers, The Wooster Group, dissociative identity disorder, Nichols and May, Andy Warhol, Dance Dance Revolution, and the First Lady of the One-Man Show, Tony Award winner Elaine Stritch to all play a part. One-Man Show stars John Heginbotham and features a cast of thousands, including Aaron Mattocks, Daniel Pettrow and Elizabeth DeMent.

The Yale Alumni Magazine's recent cover story “Why They Call Yale The Gay Ivy” sparked a furor among its readers, igniting a larger controversy about homophobia, tradition and the generational divide in our country today. The Gay Ivy is a music/theater collage illuminating disparate perspectives on the article and its aftermath.

Don't Trust Anyone (much) over 30
Seth Gilman curates. He's 30. Soon he will be 31. That's over 30. Can you still trust him to put on a rockin' good new music concert, kiddies? Of course you can. What, would he lie to you? Would he bamboozle you into coming all the way out to Brooklyn, unless the incredible vocal acrobatics, compelling performances, fresh songs, and hip venue were for real? Fat chance. If he were up to something, New Brew would set him straight...
With music by:Raphael Fusco, Peter Hilliard, Andrea La Rose, Julia Meinwald, Jeff Myers, Seth Rozanoff, Eric Shanfield, Alex Temple
Sung by: Kim Dunbar, Seth Gilman, Anne Ricci, Cameron Russell, Delea Shand, Krista Wozniak
With special guests: Christopher Berg (piano), Raphael Fusco (piano), Richard Quantz (viola)

Residency with American Lyric Theatre
Until ALT started the Composer Librettist Development Program, there was not a single full-time training program for opera composers and librettists at any opera company in the United States. Open to artists selected through a competitive application process, the program includes a core curriculum of classroom training and hands-on workshops with some of the country’s leading working artists. In addition to ongoing classes and workshops, composers and librettists in the program take part in residency observerships at our theater and opera company partners (which include New York City Opera, New York Theatre Workshop, The Vineyard Theatre, Primary Stages, and The Atlantic Theater Company). This unique combination of opportunities provides unprecedented mentorship to those writing for the opera stage.
