On Tuesday 5/16, the soon to be graduates of the New Studio on Broadway put on their senior presentation at The Green Room 42. The program featured both classic musical theatre songs and newer fare --- including Girls Suck from Pregnancy Pact! I had the pleasure of getting to know some of these performers this fall when NSB put on a workshop production of Elevator Heart, and I was so honored to be included in the awesome show they put together!
If you've seen a concert of mine, you may know that I tend to lean pretty heavily towards ballad-land; I just love a nice, moody slow song! All the more reason I was stoked that Gordon and my song "The First Day Without You" was featured on a Contemporary Musical Theatre blog post listing some of their favorite Pop-Rock Uptempo songs! See that world? I am technically capable of writing at a clip faster than 120 bpm! They say:
"It’s her first day without him and what does she do? Sing this awesome pop rock breakup song! Julia Meinwald & Gordon Leary’s fun and feisty song for a soprano with a good mix takes us through all the raw emotions of a breakup – from funny to poignant. It could easily be cut and would make a great 16 bar audition song."
