Gordon and I are so excited to be back at Yale as alumni writers in residence at the Yale Institute for Music Theatre! (We developed Pregnancy Pact at YIMT in 2011) We've fallen madly in love with the other writing teams here, and are trying to carve out enough time from rocking out to their demos to finish a draft of REB + VoDKa + ME. Also, great news: My favorite restaurant from when I was an undergraduate here Twelve Years ago still remembers me and what my favorite dish is! Not directly related to musical theatre, but surely somehow this will affect my songwriting.
Gordon and I are so excited to be putting together a concert featuring songs from our three newest shows: The Magnificent Seven, Something Blue, and REB + VoDKa + ME! Our blurb:
Julia Meinwald and Gordon Leary write aggressively empathetic musical theatre. In the tradition of their shows Pregnancy Pact (Weston Playhouse, 2012) and The Loneliest Girl in the World (Diversionary Theatre, 2018), their three newest musicals explore unlikely (and sometimes unlikable) characters behaving badly. Come hear songs about ankle-busting Olympic gymnasts, fans of school shooters, and gay people getting straight-married. There will be extremely talented performers singing very high notes. There will be an extremely talented band playing a wide range of notes. There will be love notes if you find yourself in an unexpected romantic moment with the stranger seated at your table. Either way, it promises to be a fun, dark, twisty time! Get your tickets here! |
